Afternoon Note

So Far, So Good

The earnings deluge has begun, and so far, so good.  But a lot of good news has been built into this market and the most influential names are still coming up to bat.

Microsoft (MSFT) has a strong track record of beating, and going back to summer 2021, the stock has been higher a week after posting results.  Everyone wants to hear about AI, but cloud news will likely make or break the quarter.

Speaking of intrigue on the AI front.  Unless they catch up fast, Google (GOOG/L) losing the AI race will rank as one of the biggest miscues in corporate history. The company has missed four straight quarters, so a beat, and hopeful news on AI, could send shares much higher.

Visa (V) was just assigned to Financials after being in the tech sector for a long time.  The execution has been great, and we expect it to continue.  I am interested in their read on the US consumer.

As for the remainder of the session, I think there are growing fears the economy is slowing more than suspected. The Philly Fed non-manufacturing number was a disaster this morning.  I hope the Fed has access to this information.
