Afternoon Note

Friday Fluctuations

By John Jean, Research Analyst
5/9/2025 1:15 PM

The market continues hovering near its unchanged level and is currently slightly in the red.

Meanwhile, commodity prices are rising, notably with natural gas leading and currently up 5.4%.

The Ten-Year Treasury Yield (TNX) fell 1.2 basis points to 4.361%. Over the week, it held above its 50 MA at 4.278% and 200 MA at 4.224%.

Many stocks are only marginally moving today; however, Tesla (TSLA) is a notable exception. Most auto makers are getting a boost from the UK trade deal.

Five sectors are moving higher this afternoon. Energy (XLE) once again is leading the way, benefiting from rising oil prices. Technology (XLK) is the laggard, driven by a poor earnings reaction from Akamai Technologies (AKAM).

Have a great weekend and happy Mother's Day to all the moms!
