Stocks Muted

Stocks are mixed ahead of a busy week for earnings with the S&P 500 expecting some of its largest companies to report this week. The bar is low for earnings season with a 4.8% decline in Q1 earnings; energy expected to perform better than most.

Federal officials continue their parade of speeches with Richmond Fed President Barkin scheduled to speak today while New York Fed President John Williams and Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester are due to speak later this week.

Of the eleven S&P sectors, seven are trading in the green, led by Real Estate and Industrials. Communication Services (XLC) topping losers, with Google (GOOGL) down 4% after a report that Samsung was considering replacing Google with Microsoft’s Bing as the default search engine on its devices.

On the economic front, NAHB saw its fourth consecutive monthly improvement up to 45, and in-line with consensus. Limited resale inventory helped drive demand for new homes.
