Some will win and Some will lose

Some will win, some will lose

Oh, the movie never ends

It goes on and on and on and on

Don’t Stop Believin’

Journey

While all the major sectors are lower, there is actually a sense of calm to today’s session.  Market breadth is even across all metrics, but there are a few more 52 week losers than winners on the NYSE.  This kind of bifurcation underscores the fact there are always winners and losers, which makes talk of what the market is doing moot unless you only own index funds (and probably underperforming).

There is a part of this consolidation process that will be very helpful to identifying the winners from losers and those in between (some might call those the real value opportunities).

We see this in retail today with Lowes (LOW) and Target (TGT) crushing it and other Amazon-killers (maybe not killers but can hold their own for a variety of reasons) trading higher including:

Some will lose

But the retail losers remind us investing is about finding the best names and being part owner of those names.
