Afternoon Note
Most major indices have reversed earlier losses and are now in the green. Strength in Technology (XLK) stocks is helping to offset the pressure from ongoing geopolitical concerns.
Bitcoin (BTC) is seeing some gains today, after President Trump met with the CEO of Coinbase (COIN) in a closed-door meeting.
Five of eleven sectors are moving higher, with Real Estate (XLRE) in the lead, up 0.36%. Materials (XLB) is the worst performer, down 0.59%.
Housing Starts were the weakest in three months at -3.1% m/m, missing consensus of -1.5%. The weakness was driven by the slowdown in single-family starts as Hurricanes Helene and Milton disrupted activity during the month.
Building Permits fell in October to 1.416M from 1.425M and below consensus of 1.43M. Notably the rate of decline was slower at -0.6% m/m versus -3.1% last month.
GDPNow from Atlanta Fed rose to +2.6% q/q for Q4 from +2.5% last week. Consumption accounted for most of the growth, while inventories were the only component in negative territory.
