Don’t look now, but the S&P 500 closed at a new all-time high after putting in its best weekly performance since early February. Moreover, it wasn’t smoke and mirrors, but buyers adding names with strong earnings and compelling value propositions into the mix. But this is not an irrational market. On the contrary, it’s a market that has reverted to the very basic roots retreating to the oldest, most boring names possible in the way a turtle would pull its head in, or an armadillo would roll into a ball, when its senses danger. The animal kingdom is an amazing miracle where all living things have defense mechanisms, including humans (fight or flight). While the stock market isn’t a living thing, it’s influenced more by human emotions than rational fundamental factors. Click here to read this week's Payne's Perspective.
