Oil stock dominated the top advancers list, but it is doubtful Iran will attempt to close the Strait of Hormuz for two reasons. The close would choke off China, Iran's largest customer.
Middle East experts also say blocking the Strait of Hormuz would severely harm Iranian ally Oman.
As for the bond market, oil has only had a limited impact in recent years.
Geopolitical Events They say war is good for the stock market, but initially armed conflicts have hit the market first, although the last double-digit drawdown happened after the 9/11 attacks. Still, there is always concern that the Middle East could devolve into a prolonged conflict among several parties.
