The market was dealing with a lot of struggles and question marks, mainly beneath the surface. Still, it made the foundation vulnerable enough that when the latest variant became “news,” the shock sent stocks tumbling and the experts scurrying. 

The (mini) panic triggered as the latest version of Covid-19 emerging out of South Africa moved from just a number (B.1.1.529) and was given a name by the World Health Organization: Omicron.

Fear Porn or Logical Retreat?

I have been writing for weeks about higher cases in Europe and even this South African variant. Then, suddenly, it became a stock market event, even as the experts dismissed the idea over and over again, even with higher spikes in cases for many nations that had been lauded for their handling of the virus.
