Last week’s sessions never got out of the three-day weekend mode, or the sense that summer was ending. In addition, the twentieth anniversary of 9/11 hung in the air every day, and while I have no idea what it meant for the stock market (for me), it filled each day with a sense of melancholy. As a result, the activity was lackluster, with the lightest volume of the year and with internals reverting negatively after improving the week before.
