Earnings will be down in the first half of the year, and equity yields are already moving closer to bonds. Meanwhile, it shouldn’t be lost on investors how much better high dividend-yielding stocks are performing over low dividend-yielding stocks. With new taxes on buybacks kicking in next year, and investors demanding higher dividends, look for companies to comply. Hopefully, this doesn’t happen at the expense of capital expenditures.
