The Dividend Report - November 2022

The White House has gone to war against corporate America, and as part of the mission to pick winners and make losers in society, the administration has targeted stock buybacks. I’m not a fan of buybacks when a company is borrowing money provide them, although at zero percentage interest, there are smart ways to make it effective. I also would like to see moratoriums on insider selling as the company is buying stock in the open market. But these are issues that should be addressed to enhance buybacks not dissuade companies from using them. Attacking buybacks means attacking pension and retirement plans as well.
