There is no doubt a Trump victory, coupled with Republicans maintaining control of the Senate, would be the absolute best-case scenario for the stock market. But there are so many additional factors that influence the economy and market in addition to the political party and ideology in the White House. Knowing and understanding these exogenous inputs will be an important part of your decision-making process. There is even going to be a psychological aspect of the market that probably benefits either candidate, but for different reasons. Most market participants expect the market to continue its love affair with President Trump that was interrupted momentarily by the coronavirus crisis. Conversely, a President Biden win would benefit from low expectations that could see the Street cheering smaller accomplishments as investors did during and after the Great Recession.
