Afternoon Note

Holiday Calm

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst
3/24/2016 2:12 PM

While the markets are down slightly ahead of this long holiday weekend, things are quite calm.  The dollar is stronger again today while gold, silver, and copper are all lower.  Oil is down but is off its lows and Brent is back above $40 and WTI around $39.50.  The latest Baker Hughes report shows U.S. rigs declined by 15 from last week.  However, stockpiles remain at record highs, climbing 9.4 million barrels from last week.

Initial claims for Americans filing for unemployment rose to a seasonally adjusted 265,000 from the previous week’s revised number of 259,000.   The four week moving average increased to 259,250 from the previous week’s revised 259,500.   This was the longest streak, 55 weeks, with claims below 300,000.

For the week ending March 12, the seasonally adjusted insured unemployment decreased by 39,000 to 2,179,000 from the previous week's revised level of 2,218,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,206,500, a decrease of 13,500 from the previous week.

Happy Easter.

Chas; the blue field does not include those who have given up and gone away. If that number would be included, the whole graph would be blue.

Mr. Payne, Can you make it easy for us by simply establishing a Payne Mutual Fund that we could buy into?

1) Donald Trump talks just like Jackie Mason.

2) For John Stossel: Federal Eminent Domain: The Gas Act of 1938. Natural gas pipelines.

3) Smoking marijuana causes an eight (8) point drop in IQ ... [and the new MJ is far more powerful than the old stuff.] And George Soros who is financing a lot of our politics is a BIG supporter of MJ.

Can you find kinescope footage of Fidel Castro's execution squads shooting landowners standing in front of a large trench/pit? I remember seeing it happen live on television. The rifle bullets entered the guy's shirt front and tore out the back of the shirt. His legs flopped upward toward his chest. And then his body flipped backwards and back into the pit.

They did that to a LOT of farmers.

Apparently, the City of New York trashcanned a police manual on how to detect terrorist sleeper cells. Both Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh discussed it at length the other day. Want to help Belgium?, provide the Belgian police with copies of that manual ... it would help with neighborhood policing / surveillance.
