Question of the Week

If you could toss a bottle into the ocean, and know it would be found 98 years later, what would you want to say?

I look forward to hearing from you and sharing your thoughts.
Post your answer below.

Afternoon Note

An Island Lost

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst
9/12/2012 4:26 PM

Just a castaway
An island lost at sea, oh
Another lonely day
No one here but me, oh
More loneliness
Any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
Message in a Bottle
Police

Last week, Guinness World Records confirmed a bottle found in Scotland was the oldest ever. Launched on June 10, 1914, along with 1,889 others as part of an experiment by the Glasgow School of Navigation, the bottle is the 315th retrieved. The boat, piloted by a Scottish fisherman, is named "Copius." I can't help but find something interesting about this as some things are abundant while many others are not.

Talking smack is abundant. From politicians, pro athletes, and Mark Zuckerberg, there is a lot of smack talk going around. The Facebook founder began a public relations rebound with a mea culpa of sorts, but also confident talk about its mobile platform. The stock popped above $20.00, but many chinks remain in the armor.

In the meantime, the stock market is at a near five-year high in the most amazing stealth rally in history. I've said all along to separate the market, individual stocks and your concerns about the direction of the country. Two are going to hell in a hand basket, but the other is rocking as if reaching a new all-time high is on its bucket list.

Credit goes to great American companies and central banks. The money printing machines are ready to go on blast, and even as there is less faith about this medicine helping the economy, it is designed to inflate everything in its path. It fans out like a virus, and while job creation has been immune, and housing is only beginning to exhibit signs of succumbing, stocks are always susceptible.

Today, we get word on whether Germany's lawmakers are okay with all this money printing and the role sugar daddy Germany has to play. Yes, those selfish workaholics are footing a large part of the bill for their welfare-addicted neighbors, but they get something out of the deal, too. Germany will have a readymade market for its finished products, a source for raw materials, cheap labor, and a currency that could never be as strong as the Deutsch mark.

Then there is Big Ben and his decision on Thursday. Obviously, many will say he's revving up the presses to keep his job with a late spark to the economy that could make the difference for his kindred-spirit in the White House. I will not be that cynical. The Fed chief knows of no other way to make this economy move other than to flood it with dollars. And, in case you haven't noticed, the economy is moving like a piece of driftwood.

Rescue the Nation Before it Falls into Despair

If I throw a message in a bottle this morning will the world lament about the highest paid school teachers in the country quitting on children because they don't want to be evaluated? There would be a mention about the abandonment of God. There might be something about the "War on Success." But, there would also be a part that says I will never give up because this country has never given up, and despite its failings and current vulnerability, the goal of a more perfect union has always steered the correct course. It's not socialism, it's not demonization and it's not a giant welfare state.

The next 24 hours is all about money printing on both sides of the Atlantic.

The Euro is surging, and stocks are ready to enter a rally phase based solely on inflation. It can be a dangerous time that sets us up for a double-digit correction down the line. And while I expressed some anxiety yesterday, please do not take that as a signal to get out of the market. On the contrary, remember that when Alan Greenspan talked about "irrational exuberance" that was five years before the market crashed.

How to Play This

Ride the wave in two ways, still seek out longer term investments, but also do more trading than you normally would. I'm not talking about day trading, but there could be a lot of short squeezes and spikes that could generate a lot of money in a short period of time.

Today's Session

Was there ever any doubt that the German court would go along with the idea of the €190.0 billion emergency fund? The highest court in Germany has stipulated that parliament will be able to vote on increases, which means recipients have to do more than complain about "fairness" and actually roll up their sleeves to get to work and stop spending money they do not have. Of course, the Greek plan of attack-refusing money with stipulations-is being used by Spain, but they're going to take the money.

Now, it's the countdown to Ben Bernanke.

While we wait, the Street will keep an eye on Apple to see if this iPhone actually matches anticipation.

A day after the anniversary of the worst terrorist attack in American history, tragedy hits in Libya. Four Americans, including the US ambassador and two marines, were killed by a rocket fired by protestors. I have too much to say about this to squeeze it in now, but God Bless the victims and their families.

When it was all said and done it really did turn out to be about love and family.

From America to the world in 98 years: If our personal liberty and this republic have not survived, then it is only because we did not have the quality of character needed to preserve it.

my message in bottle:
Has John Galt showed up yet?
Sure hope so.

What a gutless president we have.

Love and trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Love one another unconditionally, especially family.
And....Never go into debt. If you can't pay for it, don't buy it.

This is September, 2012. Our Constitutional Republic, The United States of America, is and has been under attack for the past 50 years by communists, socialists and a Congress made up of people who will compromise anything to get re-elected. We are about to lose Our God given and Constitutional freedoms because of one man, barack obama, the currenbt president of The United States and the democratic party which has been taken over by radical communists/socialists and muslims. The national election this coming November, 2012 will go down in history as the turning point of our great nation: either back to our God given and Constitutional freedoms or into the pit of human miseery called socialism and huge goverment. When you read this, I wish I could be present to see what has happened to America. God Bless you and The United States of America. Jim

In the year 2012 Obama lost the election and the Republicans and Tea-Party Candidates won nationwide. As a result, the damage to our Constitution, Bill of Rights, all our freedoms, our economy, our financial industry, our health care system, our welfare system, our educational system, our housing market, and our illegal alien problem were undone. The U.S. of A., by way of Conservative & Bi-Partisan efforts, regained it's prominence and respect in the world as a leader of freedom, technology, etc, etc., etc.

Obama Sucks!

Don't blame me. I voted for McCain!

My own view is that we face a Hobson's choice. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It depends on what you care about most. And I am not Steve Baum, whoever that is who posted a comment earlier.

We're on the eve of (financial)destruction.

No concessions until religious tolerance is reciprocal. No more effing apologies. I don't need my leader to sissy-foot around the globe on my behalf.

Patricia Flynn on 9/12/2012 3:03:49 PM
Depends upon the outcome of the elections. Message if Romney Wins:... America The Beautiful lives on through the sacrifice of many; proud, free and benevolent. Continue to bless and guard her well.
If Obama Wins:...The America I knew ceased to exist by 2012 because of the apathy of many who refused to believe that the enemy was within. How sad you will never know the America that was the beacon of freedom to all in her time.
As for now, I so pray we will all have our eyes opened to see what is happening and vote this man, his cronies and their agenda OUT OF OFFICE!

Marie C on 9/12/2012 3:18:02 PM
Never elect a far left wing, progressive, ultra liberal, ideologue President with tendencies to defend the Muslims, to the white house.
Unless you are willing to have him drive the economy, the constitution and our way of life into the ground deeper that flight 93.
YOU will have to live with his destruction of our Country for the next 20 years.
Let us hope they find the message in this bottle before Nov 6, 2012. Would have been better if the message in this bottle had been found, on Oct 30, 2008. Hindsight is easy; foresight is a blessing from GOD. I pray we get it before this November.

I would write:
"The world has changed greatly in the 3 score years of my life. Broadcast television grew mightily during my youth. Mass media flourished when I was a young man. The internet came on scene, as did cable television, during my prime working years.

"With each advance in communication technology, society has suffered. Too many people have lost touch with nature, and thereby lost touch with their Creator. They live in cities where night lights obscure the stars and the sound of crickets and bullfrogs is muted. Their lives are absorbed in make-believe tales from movie moguls, political manipulators, and corporate advertisers which do not reflect the world as it is, but as some fool dreams it would be. The speed of communication has pulled far too many along into a pace of life which is unhealthy. The technology has such impact as to stop cogent thought in most of the populace. Charismatic morons rule the country to the detriment of most so they can enjoy their own power trips.

"In 2012, the USA is nearing a precipice. The future of the country and its citizens are dependent on pulling back from the technology and getting back to the Creator and knowing Him through His creation at the pace we were designed to live. It is my hope that when you read this, you can say that we chose wisely and learned to live right and righteous. My fear is that my future and your history will be full of the pain of not choosing wisely. The good of this life is in people and not in machines. And the best of life is in living with the minimum of machines and loving the most people."

. . . and then Cuba comes out with a stronger condemnation of the attacks against the US Embassy in Egypt and the consulate in Benghazi than the US president? Go tell Alice.

I hope to god (pun intended) that science and reason have prevailed. Theocracies have destroyed our nations for 2000 years. Humanity and secularism are hopefully the bedrock of our interactions.

Just curious, after reading the posts... What does God and Jesus have to do with investing? Chasing material wealth and gain is the antithesis of Jesus' teachings.

I hope your day is better than mine. Turned on tv and all I see are arguments of you are the devil no you are the devil from all groups of people and countries. Went to the grocery and prices have increased for one reason or another and the packages of products are smaller in size, a double whammy. Need gas in my car but the price is so high, I am trying to budget and trying to determine what I can do without first but I should probably go ahead and get it due to all the violence on the tv because they will probably use that as an excuse to increase prices further. Went to the mall to try to buy a pair of pants but Jcpenney and sears are in competition to remodel their stores increase prices on the same products that were at a much inexpensive price just a few short months ago and have their employees confused and even they can't find what you are looking for, no wonder they are going bankrupt. A little hint your customers are of age and unique sizes easy to find at a decent price is what is being sought by them. Customers compare prices and want simple and are not stupid, so stop trying to keep up with high end stores be who your loyal shoppers want you to be and I did go somewhere else. I also saw on tv a political commercial that the top 1% (aka the rich) makes $250,000.00 a yr. not so. The rich make millions of dollars a yr. Who makes $250,000.00, owner truck drivers, mom and pop shops, dentist and dr. offices, farmers and so on. A truck driver will make $500,000.00 as their taxes will show (John Doe/dba John Doe trucking) but he will pay weekly taxes, maintenance, fuel, driver sometimes, tolls and other fees and the true take home income will be $50,000.00 and the politicians have access to the IRS can something else be going on? You can hear reporters and other politicians mention this will hurt the small business but are not clearly explaining for even the truck driver and other small business owners and farmers are not clear on the explanation. There are no clear answers to questions asked but re-direction of the questions. With this being said I hope things have gotten better, that the banks pay a fair wage to their employees and not a small pay with commission that causes cheating, where everybody loses including the banks. That you have a diverse source of energy including coal. That your country does the majority of your business within your country no matter which country you live in, I think this will bring economic growth and happiness to you and your economic and political leaders. I hope you have good products and groceries at a decent price for prosperity for you and your business owners. I hope you and the innocent children around you are safe and still innocent. I hope the young people in your community and in prisons are getting a wanted individual education and rehabilitation that is deserved and needed, (job creation)? Love and education prevents prison, hopefully you have discovered this by now. I hope less people are using gadgets, watching tv, and doing crazy things on Internet. Using them for minimal information, wholesome entertainment and decent research is ok. A little bit of indulgences that leads to can't do without them can lead to immoral and bitter habits that can also lead to depression. I hope your society is filled with Love, respect, hope and faith and that you have learned lessons from our mistakes of dishonesty, greed, vanity, shamelessness, cold heartlessness and just plain hatred. We have no prosperity and everyone blames everyone and everything else but the finger pointing should mostly be pointed at ourselves. Stop trying to fix the splinter in your neighbors eye when you have a plank in your eye. Stop judging your neighbors house when your house is not in order. Stop wanting everything this very moment and not looking ahead because that day ahead is just around the corner and the world will still spin when you have gone on. Love and respect thy neighbor and mind your own business so you won't be minding mine:) this will bring love and peace now and in the future. I just realized that I use my gadgets to much and watch to much tv, get out and do something that makes you happy. Companies need to stop abusing the situation and saying to their employees that they have to take it because they could be without a job, this will come back to them someday. Employees need to stop complaining about everything and get the job done, find a new job or contact the authorities to handle a harassment situation if needed,It is against the law. There are jobs out there and it is not all doom and gloom, life is how we accept it. Everybody needs to stop blaming Bush because he didn't create our situation there are many hats of blame going back several years. And why are the ones blaming Bush doing the exact same things with bailouts but at a grander scale and with larger ramifications?? May God bless our current and future leaders. May God bless our country and all countries. May God bless you and me and may God bless us all. Troubled I am but I have faith and hope and I pray for love and peace for all:) I hope for churches to wake up and teach on Sunday evening and Wednesday evenings as well as on Sunday mornings. We need the Lords commandments in our offices, court houses and especially in our schools. They teach love and moral behaviors they don't teach hatred for one another, without them we have devision and depressed peoples. I hope all is well with you and yours. I will quit now but I could go on:)
