Guess, Borders Resist Sector Weakness

Guess Inc. shares rose about 5% early Friday, bucking a mild decline in the broader sector, after the teen clothing retailer posted better-than-expected quarterly results a day earlier.

Brian Sozzi, an analyst at WStreet.com, reiterated his buy rating and raised his price target on the stock to $35 a share from $30.

"Despite several formidable headwinds, including the strengthening dollar, less free wheel spending by the international shopper, and tepid uptake of discretionary merchandise here in the U.S., Guess managed its business rather effectively to begin the year," he said.
