Afternoon Note

Markets Higher

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst
12/14/2020 2:16 PM

Although the three major indices are in the green, the Dow and S&P 500 lost some steam, erasing some of this morning’s vaccine-induced bump, after NYC Mayor Bill de Blassio brought up the possibility of a “full shutdown” of NYC on Monday, the day that restaurants in the city were asked to close.

Nasdaq is holding onto gains, as many work-from-home stocks are seeing great action this afternoon. Interestingly, Peloton (PTON) is being added to Nasdaq 100, which is a huge vote of confidence.  Other companies being added are American Electric Power Company (AEP), Marvell (MRVL), Match (MTCH), and Atlassian (TEAM).

Energy is underperforming in today’s section. WTI oil dropped to a low of $45.76 after OPEC’s latest Monthly Oil Market Report cut its forecast for Q1 2021 demand by 1M bpd.
