Oil Adds to Slippery Market

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst

The market was already in a tenuous position coming into the session, then came the latest update on petroleum inventory levels, which kicked the legs from under energy names and put pressure on the boarder market as well.

After eight weeks of declines, there was a shocking increase in crude oil reported by the EIA today- the street was looking for a draw of 3.5 million barrels.

Too Many Rigs?

This dovetails with the continued return of US rigs led by a spike in horizontal oil rigs brought back online over the past year.

Overall, oil rigs in the US have climbed to 733 or 126% in the past year:

The negative impact on oil is legit pressure, although I think there will still be another spike this year. Although I must admit, it seems like US procurers are more eager to derail the market more than OPEC.

Meanwhile, the stakes are high tomorrow that James Comey says something that breathes long term life into the media frenzy over the election, role of Russia and whether President Trump tried to intimidate key figures in the investigation of Michael Flynn.

I think it is all smoke and no fire, and just maybe, Comey stops short of making such claims and that shifts investor focus back to the market and economy.

I was discussing the forthcoming testimony of one James Comey with my wife the other day and brought up THIS simple fact: Would not our former Director of the FBI have been in {{HOT WATER}} if he HAD been subject to "intimidating treatment" and a REAL attempt to interfere with any Russian hacking/election interference from President Trump and NOT reported it? THINK about it!!

Are these numbers legit: real actual inventory levels of the float numbers that traders play in day to day? Growth has been returning albeit slowly globally so this just doesn't ring true to me.

After Comey testifying & nothing comes of it The Dems will have something else to use to obstruct Do they care about our country or are they so blinded by there hatred. It is sad that public officials are governed by personal vendetta. Lets get draining the swamp in motion and get rid of these obstructionists now!!

Anything that will shut up Ron Wyden and Mark Warner will be enough to propel the markets forward!
The DEMs have become demagogues and would hurt American in order to defeat Trump. Partisan Politics has gone to far for too long.

The Democrats are the only people in politics that have a spine and a voice! Sad to say, but it is true. Republicans do not know how to fight for what their constituents voted them into office for. Republicans cower down to Democrats and Democrats know this. Also, this country will soon elect from two sorry individuals running in Georgia's sixth district. I voted for Trump, Romney, McCain, Bush 43, Bush 41, and Reagan. I want this country to be great again. Trump cannot do it on his own. In-fighting of Republicans will only lead to a failed Trump agenda and the inevitable re-election of another sorry Democrat president, one that will certainly turn this country toward socialism and despair. Millenials and other liberal pathetic people could care less about a 228 year old document, our Constitution. Those same people know nothing about honor and sacrifice in service to this great USA through military service. I do. I am proud of my country, I am proud to be an American. I am proud to have served. Pray for Trump and our elected leaders, the bible tells us to do so. God Bless!
