Afternoon Note

Back and Forth We Go

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst

Well it’s been a back and forth day for the major indices.  Stock are currently higher even with the 3.6% drop in WTI earlier, which basically gave back all its gain from yesterday before starting to recover.  Consumer Discretionary, Financials, Industrials and Technology are strong while Energy and Utilities lag.   At midday, the advancers are leading decliners on the NYSE 1792/1153 and the Nasdaq 1729/1007.

The Case-Shiller Index, the leading measure of U.S. home prices, released today for the 20-City Composite rose 5.0% year-over-year, versus expectations of a 5.1% increase.  Portland, Oregon led the way with a price increase of 12.4%. Seattle saw an increase of 11.2%, while Denver gained 9.4%.

The consumer seems to be optimistic about the current state of the economy as the Consumer Confidence Index hit its highest since August 2007, coming in at 104.1 in September, blowing away estimates that the number would drop to 99.0 from last month’s reading of 101.8.  Will have more on this in the morning report.

Last night... my man TRUMP... screwed the pooch. Got double teamed, didn't bring up 4 killer topics and was loud.

It's in God's hand's now.

Portland and Seattle may be seeing a lift from the obstacles to foreign ownership introduced in Vancouver, 15% tax.

We needed a voice of reason on the stage - Gary Johnson, but he was prevented being there by the anti-freedom and free-speach Democrats and Republicans

I agree and disagree with Barry's comments. Lester chose all the topics that gave HRC fodder and knew they would irritate DT and it worked. He harped too much on the problems and not the solutions that are different from the same old tired Democratic Progressive Tax and Spend big government plans! He should have nailed her more on the e-mails, the lies to Benghazi victimes parents, Clinton Foundation, Russian Reset, and the debacle of Libya and ISIS spread.
I do not think he is a stellar candidate but, anything is better than the same old status quo Leftist Elitist pablum.

The snap polls were very revealing in that, except for CNN, Trump won most of them by substantial margins. That's not necessarily an objective verdict. What it does reveal is an enormous enthusiasm gap favoring Trump. Many more of his supporters showed up and also gave their opinions with enthusiasm. It's hard to get enthusiastic about a 65% estate tax, even if there isn't a chance in hell that it will ever apply to you. Hillary supporters -- and those in the middle -- are less likely to show up and vote than the Trumpers.
