Afternoon Note

Quiet Friday

By Charles Payne, CEO & Principal Analyst

It has been a very busy week of earnings, and investors are pretty much taking a breathier.  It’s a relatively quiet Friday, trading below average volume.  Indices are at the highs of the day with advancers leading decliners and new highs outpacing new lows.  GE is weighing on the Dow after reporting earnings that beat the street but a second quarter decline in orders is taking the stock down 2% and industrials with it.

The markets don’t seem to care that oil is down again today with WTI trading down 1.9% to $43.90.  Gold is also down to $1,323 or 0.6% on fears that the Fed may start to tighten sooner rather than later.

The U.S. Dollar index is stronger again (97.44) and both the pound and euro continue lower.  U.S. Treasury yields are mixed with the 30 year down to 2.29% and the 10 year is down to 1.55%.

Have a great weekend.
