Morning Commentary
Alas, the storm is come again! My best way is to creep
under his gabardine; there is no other shelter hereabout: misery
acquaints a man with strange bedfellows. I will here shroud till the
dregs of the storm be past.

The Tempest
So, Washington’s odd couple shared the same gabardine to protect their turf and power. John Boehner and Barack Obama, heretofore we'll call "The Establishment."
These strange bedfellows are pushing through a bill that defies November's mid-term election that will make a mockery of all their big talk and promises. It is about ego and power; it is not about what people really want.
Black Lives Matter?
I am sure there will not be any protestors outside the White House today or this weekend staging “die-ins” or other tactics in the name of Eric Garner or anyone else. However, the deal cut last night will not fund cameras for police departments. (This is not about TASR which we have taken profits on. It is just the kind of lip service Obama's core constitutions have gotten for six years.)
So, where did the money go?
The vote was a nail-biter, the House passed H.R. 83 last night, and now the Senate will take up the vote.

When it was over, Nancy Pelosi said she was "enormously disappointed" that prior to the vote, Maxine Waters told her colleagues, "don't be intimidated by Obama." Maybe the media had it wrong all these years about the real obstructionist.
However, it moves to the Senate, where upstarts Ted Cruz and Elizabeth Warren want to stop it...but for very different reasons. Can the establishment force its will once again?
If they win, the American people are the losers...
Take this Country, and Shove it
It has been a serious rough patch for America, but the thought of renouncing one's citizenship is a drastic move, and it is hard for me to understand. Yet, that has been the case in ever-increasing numbers. Last year, 2,999 people said, “Take this country, and shove it.”
That was up 221% from 2012, and 1,200% higher than 2008.
However, I do not condone such an action while we remain a Republic, and I get where people are worried about a government that is creeping deeper into their lives and wallets. More Americans are opting for arming themselves and raising their voices, which is why the gun ownership chart mirrors citizens bolting.
Well, the administration is fighting back and taking a page from the mafia characters in the movie "A Bronx Tale.”
There is a famous line from the movie when a biker gang refused to leave the neighborhood bar, so the local guys locked the door and said, "Now youse can't leave."
Now, if you want to leave America and give up citizenship, the new fee is up 400% to $2,350, and there is an exit tax for people with $2.0 million in assets.
I am talking about all assets; including homes, salaries, retirement accounts, stocks, art, and jewelry. You have to pay this tax immediately as if you just sold all that stuff. I guess, “If you can't pay, you can't leave.”
Instead of taxing people to make them stay, how about we tax people less to make them not want to leave? How about protecting our Constitution, instead of hinting at its destruction, and our government protecting its citizens like those mafia guys who protected their neighborhood?
Today’s Session
Equity futures are poised to open in the red, despite the Dow getting a 20-point pop following the release of the November producer price index (PPI) reading. Inflation at the producer level eased up somewhat last month as the PPI for total final demand declined 0.2% after rising 0.2% in October, and consensus called for a 0.1% decline. When food and energy prices are excluded, the PPI reading was flat, following a jump of 0.4% in October, while analysts projected a 0.1% increase. We will provide additional details in the afternoon note.

Our so called leaders in Washington disappoint "We the People" again. Big spenders and government of the special interests. What happened to doing what is right for our country. They won't cut spending!!! Harriet Aristeguieta on 12/12/2014 10:05:06 AM |
I wish I had to power to control my own destiny instead of these blockheads having the power to control theirs at my expense. At the end of the day this is the World Wrestling Federation - scream at each other during the day, and sharing drinks together at night. A democracy at work? marh byrum on 12/12/2014 11:17:53 AM |
McConnell and Boehner both need to be replaced with true Republicans. Government was meant to protect us not destroy us. Charlene Voss on 12/12/2014 2:06:35 PM |
Right on Charles! I've been thinking about this through last evening and today, the more I thought about the spending bill the madder I've become. This piece of legislation is a slap in the face of every working person in the country Jim Hubbard on 12/12/2014 7:30:01 PM |
