Tuesday, February 12, 2008 GM posts loss, announces buyout plans - Marketwatch.com David Silver, Analyst at Wall Street Strategies, discusses GM earnings on Marketwatch.com General Motors Corp., punctuating a tough year in the auto sector, announced its latest round of buyouts and posted another loss Tuesday, slammed by continued losses at GMAC and a brutal economic climate for its U.S. customers. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial had expected a fourth-quarter loss, on average, of 54 cents a share on revenue of $44.4 billion. "I really like the earnings release, and a good portion of the negative feel is stemming from its share of GMAC," Wall Street Strategies analyst David Silver said. "The struggles in North America are no surprise, and now that the economy in Europe is beginning to slow, that segment should really come as no surprise either."
